For the Streamlined states that have local rates, you can find links to their websites here.
It will give you the option of linking to a list of all local rates or you can link the site that gives you the option to look each rate up by zip code (Link to Rate Calculator). And, hey, it’s free!
The states available here are:
AR - IA - KS - MN - NE - NV - NC - ND
OH - OK - SD - TN - UT - VT - WA - WY
*Note: IN, KY, MI, NJ, RI, WV are part of SSUTA, but have no local rates. You can also find their state rates listed which are good for all zip-codes in each respective state.

how accurate is sales tax rate lookup if you use zip 4 for all fifty states? I thought I read tax districts and zip boundaries don’t always coincide? what percentage of addresses would result in inaccurate tax rate? is gps geocode the most accurate way to lookup?

When you’re using City/State/Zip to calculate sales taxes, you can get pretty close in getting the rate right most of the time. If you use a zip+4, you’ll get even better results. However, the best way to calculate rates is by street address using a geo-mapper that defines the exact roof-top city and jurisdictional limits.
If you’re using a software, the oldest/biggest vendors generally only use a zip+4 geocode match. There are some new up and coming vendors that use roof-top geocoding and can get an exact rate for an exact roof-top. If you’d like a list of those vendors, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Should I dare to place a percentage on these varieties, I’d first qualify it to say that it really depends on your business and, volume of customers and how spread out across the country they are. But, let’s say you’re a company with 10K customers and they are evenly spread throughout the U.S. my guess is that you could get 90% accuracy with zip only (maybe a little better if you have a city/county/state added to the determinants, 95% with zip+4, and more likely 99% with the rooftop rates.
