Washington – New Resale Permits for 2010

Without a new reseller permit in 2010, you won’t be able to claim a resale exemption. Vendors are instructed to start taxing customers without a new permit come January 1st.

There has been some confusion on this issue. Documents received from the state regarding this changeover claim that only a copy of the state issued licenses will be sufficient for exemption claims. Really you can also provide the SST form or the MTC form. Any WA state specific resale exemption forms will expire as of the end of this year. Just remember that WA is still an SST state and must comply with their rules also.

Thanks for the comment. This is a good point.
But I must add that with these new Reseller Permits, the Permit number is to be used as opposed to the UBI number. So the 6xx… series UBI numbers previously given on a multi-state certificate or an SST certificate will not be enough at the end of the year and a new cert will need to be completed with the new permit number- whether MST, SST or just a copy of the new Permit.

If you are in need of a permit and have not yet received one yet for your UBI number,
please contact the Washington Department of Revenue at: 1-877-345-3353 or you can file online for one at:
https://fortress.wa.gov/dor/efile/Content/DoingBusiness/MyAccount/FortressLogon/Default.aspx
Alternatively, you can also apply by mailing or faxing this form:

If you do not receive your permit by the time a vendor bills you sales taxes, you will be
allowed to pay the vendor the tax and then take a credit for tax tax on the next sales

IF the customer leaves in Washington and have a resales permit. Buying the product in California and ships to California.
My question is do they need the permit to include the state of Calornia?
