LaSalle County, IL Tax Increase proposed

Posted by salestax on September 14, 2006

Another sales tax increase to be voted on this November; 1/2 cent on top of the 1/4 cent already in place.  Although if you read the posts from the citizens after the story, it doesn’t sound promising that they’ll get it passed.

Alternatively, why not make the 1/4% sales tax that’s already there applicable to the out of state retailers.  Or retailers from other counties…. oh that’s right… IL is an origin tax state – they don’t make remote sellers collect local taxes from purchasers.

UPDATE:  La Salle County Board member Jerry Myers (R-Streator) and county sheriff Tom Templeton explain to the audience Tuesday at Bruce Township Hall in Streator why the county board is asking voters to approve a ½-cent public safety sales tax increase during the first of a countywide informational campaign featuring Templeton, county coroner Jody Bernard and state’s attorney Joe Hettel.

Ingenious!  Talk to your constituents!  Sounds more promising today than it did yesterday.  Read another article here.
