Tax Holidays – 2008

I’ve noticed a lot of traffic regarding sales tax holidays, so I wanted to recap what I’ve found in the works so far for 2008.  For specific details, please visit the state-specific website to find their detailed information – the website links for each state are listed on the bottom right side of our home page.

Be aware that tax holidays typically only apply to end-user purchases.  Commercial/Business purchases are not applicable.

The list of states with Sales Tax Holidays in the works and/or on the books is as follows:

AL – Aug 1-3 (Clothing, computers, school supplies, books); See AL Website for list of localities that are participating as of 4/7/08:

CT – Aug 17-23 (Clothing/Footwear)

DC – Aug 2-10 & Nov 21-Dec 7 (clothes, shoes, accessories, & school supplies)

GA (new) – July 31-Aug 3 (School Supplies, clothing & footwear & computers); Oct 2-5, Energy  & Water Efficient products

IA – Aug 1-2 (Clothing/Footwear)

LA – May 24-25 (Hurricane preparedness items); Aug 1-2 (comprehensive – state only taxes exempt)

MA – Aug 16-17 (comprehensive except for businesses and sales of: telecomm, tobacco, gas, steam, electricity, vehicles, boats, meals)

MO – Aug 1-3 (Clothing, school supplies, computer software, computers & peripherals); April 19-April 25, starting in 2009 (Energy Star appliances).

NM – Aug 1-3 (footwear and clothing, school supplies, computers & peripherals)

NC – Aug 1-3 (clothing, school supplies, sport/recreational equipment, computers, computer supplies); Nov. 7-9 Energy Star Related

OK – Aug 1-3 (clothing & footwear)

SC– Aug 1-3 (clothing/shoes, accessories, school supplies, computers HW/SW & peripherals, also bath/bed linens; Nov. 28 & 29 – Handguns, Rifles, & Shotguns; looking to 2009 – energy efficient product for the month of October, 2009.

TN – Apr 25-27 & Aug 1-3 (clothing, school supplies/art supplies, computers)

TX – May 24-26 (Energy Star products); Aug 15-17 (clothing/footwear, backpacks)

VA– May 25-31 (portable generators & other hurricane readiness items); Aug 1-3 (clothing/footwear, school supplies); Oct 10-13 (Energy Star and WaterSense products)

WV – Sept 1-7 (Energy Star products)
