Floridians: Get your sales tax exemption here!

Posted by salestax on March 17, 2009

Looks like Florida has been busy putting out some Technical Assistance Advisement’s.  And they’re actually in favor of the consumer for important items (not for fishing boat expeditions and Superbowl tickets).

1.  Nonprescription weight loss capsules are exempt as common household remedies.  See here for a list of those common household remedies and some other items FL considers exempt.

2.  Firewood for use as household fuel is exempt from sales tax. (Business owners, make sure your invoices state that the sale is for household fuel use – or an auditor will hold your feet to the fire, no pun intended… OK, yes there was.)

3.  Contractor doing work for business with expanding business exemption can use the business’ sales tax exemption for purchasing materials and equipment that become a permanent part of the completed business.

For other Florida Technical Assistance Advisement’s on sales tax issues, you can find them here.
